Standing Liberty Quarters
1924 S 25C MS

Description & Analysis

Despite a mintage of nearly three million pieces, the 1924-S quarter dollar is fairly scarce in Mint State grades. Nearly all of these coins are poorly struck at Liberty's head and shield, as well as the eagle's breast. This entry is extremely rare when certified as Full Head, Jay Cline estimating that just 2% or fewer of the MS population qualifies. Worn examples in the lower circulated grades are rather common, due to widespread hoarding by collectors of all S-Mint coins that occurred from the mid-1930s onward.
