Description and Analysis
1942 D 10C MS
Description & Analysis
This is another high mintage wartime issue, and thousands of examples were saved in Mint State. While gems form a minority of the survivors, their overall numbers are still high enough to make this an easily filled slot in anyone's collection. Denver Mint coins were the most well struck of the three mints, so pieces having Full Bands are likewise plentiful.
More than a dozen repunched mintmark varieties are known for the 1942-D dime. Several of these are obvious enough to have broad appeal and will be added to list of eligible varieties as they are submitted to NGC.
Doubled-die obverse varieties are remarkably few for this issue, but the primary one is a very desirable overdate. This is popular enough to warrant a separate entry following this one.
