Description and Analysis
1892 10C MS
Description & Analysis
As the inaugural issue of this coin type, the 1892 Philadelphia Mint dime was saved in large numbers by both numismatists and the general public. Mint State examples are quite plentiful, with even high grade pieces turning up with some frequency. These often have lovely peripheral toning when carefully preserved. Nearly all survivors are well struck, though they may have been coined from noticeably worn dies that imparted blurred details and stretched lettering. Prooflike coins are rare, and these may have been produced from retired proof dies.
With so many dies needed for this large mintage, there are several repunched date varieties. Only the more desirable ones are recognized by NGC under its VarietyPlus service.
