Description and Analysis
Seated Liberty Dimes
1888 10C PF
Description & Analysis
This is a slightly scarce issue in gem grades, seemingly due to deficiencies in the coins as sold by the Mint. Cameo examples are moderately scarce, and Ultra Cameo coins are essentially unknown.
Three die pairs were used to produce proof 1888 dimes, and one of these is a Top-100 variety. F-102a (photos) reveals a "bald" patch within Liberty's base from severe overpolishing of the die. The reverse likewise reveals overly aggressive polishing in the form of disconnected leaves at the lower left of the wreath.
