Description and Analysis
Early Half Dimes
1801 H10C MS
Description & Analysis
For the half dimes dated 1801 a single reverse die was paired with two obverses. Both marriages are noted for major die failures which aid in the attribution of these varieties.
About a third of these coins were actually delivered in 1802, a not unusual situation with the early U. S. Mint. The vast majority of survivors are poorly and/or unevenly struck, and this can make grading such coins quite challenging.
Variety LM-1 is very rare, while LM-2 is scarce but obtainable in worn condition.
