Description & Analysis

With the coin shortage becoming national news, mintages rose dramatically. Philadelphia doubled its production of quarters from the 1962 figure. Hundreds of thousands of 1963(P) quarters survive in Mint State, yet most are heavily marked from years of being traded by the roll and bag. Gems exceeding MS 67 fall far short of the collector demand.

This entry is rich in doubled-die varieties, mostly for the obverse. Some are quite highly sought, and these will be attributed by NGC under its VarietyPlus Service.
