Although the Carson City mint struck some 534,000 Trade dollars in 1877, this number is non indicative of the rarity of this piece today. NGC has graded just over 200 examples in all grades, including over 80 details-graded coins. This is far fewer than one would expect, so it is likely that the vast majority of this original mintage ended up in the melting pot at some point.
