Description & Analysis

In 1919, the U.S. economy was reeling from the repercussions of World War I. Because of this, the mintages of the Standing Liberty quarter fell at the two branch mints, and to a lesser degree in Philadelphia as well. The country simply wasn't in need of more coinage at the time.

With a mintage of just under 2 million coins, the 1919 D is relatively rare to begin with. Add that to the fact that many are weakly struck, and finding a quality example can be very tough. The coins are very rare in gem, and around four times as rare in gem with a full head.
