Description & Analysis

Judd-456, Pollock-530, Low R.7.

Regular Indian cent dies trial issue. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. While these pieces have traditionally been classed as patterns, it is possible that they were struck on leftover planchets used for regular coinage from 1857-1864 and thus may actually be mint errors. About a dozen are believed to exist.
