NGC and PMG Remain Open and Fully Operational >
The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
In grades above XF 45, the 1874-CC ranks ninth in rarity out of the 19 CC-Mint issues in the Liberty half eagle series. The preceding eight dates on this list are all from the 1870s, making the '74-CC the most common Carson City issue of this decade.
Doug Winter and Lawrence Cutler (1994) assert that fewer than 10 1874-CC half eagles are extant in About Uncirculated, with a mere two coins in Mint State.
