The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Later date Liberty eagles are generally assumed to be common, but although the 1901-S, 1902-S, and 1903-S are plentiful in Mint State, the 1900-S is not. Only 81,000 pieces were struck, and most survivors are XF or AU. The issue is a formidable rarity in MS64 and finer.
