The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
This is the final gold dollar issue of the San Francisco Mint, and an extremely important collecting opportunity. Among issues of this date and mint, we find the following: dimes are collectible, silver dollars are rarities, gold dollars are collectible, quarter eagles are collectible, three dollar gold is unique, half eagles are scarce, eagles are rare, and double eagles are collectible. A set of five gold denomination coins (without the three-dollar piece) represent an attainable goal.
