Description & Analysis

The entire date was repunched, with a numeral 9 overwriting the 7. It appears that little or no effort was made by the die sinker to eradicate the underlying date, which remains plainly visible. A single obverse die was paired with two reverses, one having a very large 5 in the denomination (O-101) and the other utilizing a smaller 5 (O-102). Neither is rare, and several Mint State examples have been certified. Gems, however, are rare.
