Description & Analysis

Obverse 2 for 1830 was originally dated 1829 but not used to coin 1829 dimes. Numerals 30 were punched over the 29 to make the die useable in the new year. While the two die marriages that employed this obverse are moderately popular for their overdate feature, most collectors are disappointed that the underlying numerals are so hard to discern. Variety JR-4 (photos) was coined first, so the overdate is a bit more distinct, but it is certainly not a naked-eye variety.
