Description & Analysis

1814 is the date most commonly seen for this coin type, and it is tied with 1812 as the one most often selected for a type set. While the majority of 1814 cents have the same problem of very worn dies seen with 1808-13 cents, this date is more likely to be found on decent planchets. It is also the date most often found in Mint State, though such coins are still scarce.

Two die marriages are known, and these are of approximately equal rarity and value. S-294 has a crosslet 4, while S-295 (photos) has a plain 4. Both are found with reverse dies unique to their respective marriages.
