Description & Analysis

Any Barber Quarter having a mintage under one million pieces will attract collector attention, and 1911-S is indeed scarce in all but the lowest grades. Fine through AU examples are always in demand, yet Mint State coins are more plentiful than one would expect as the result of old roll finds. Gems comprise a pleasant proportion of these survivors.

Two repunched mintmark varieties are known for this issue, and both are a little more distinct than usual for such varieties in this series.
