Description & Analysis

A high mintage has made the 1907-O quarter dollar a common issue across the lower circulated grades. Nice examples grading XF and AU are much more scarce, though the population of Mint State coins is surprisingly high. Lapse quality control has left 1907-O as the most poorly made entry in this series. Technical problems resulting from improper hardening of the dies and annealing of the planchets are evident as raised portions of Liberty's portrait ("mumps") and weak details. Certified gems are scarce, and even some of these would fare poorly as type coins.

A minor repunched date variety is known.
