Description & Analysis

Mint State survivors are fairly plentiful, though very few exceed the MS 64 grade.

This is another fairly common issue across most circulated grades, though coins of this series become progressively more common from 1900-1916. This is due to the fact that collecting coins from circulation didn't catch on until the mid 1930s, by which time most Barber coins had been receiving steady use and commensurate wear for 20-40 years. A common date of the 1890s is thus more rare than a common date of the 1910s by a factor of many multiples.

All Barber Quarters dated 1901 and later are from dies displaying the 2/3 hub combination (see 1900 for a description). A very faint repunched date is known for 1901(P), but it is of little interest to collectors.
