Description & Analysis

The return of economic prosperity in 1898 prompted a bumper crop of quarter dollars from the Philadelphia Mint, and this issue is common across all grades short of MS 65. This is the most plentiful date after 1892, and 1898(P) is a good candidate for the type collector.

Three repunched dates are known for this date/mint, but all are minor and of little interest to anyone not studying the series in depth.
