Description & Analysis

This issue is second only to 1914(P) in having the lowest mintage of the series. It is actually more elusive than the earlier date across all grades. Heavily worn coins were squirreled away in coin boards and folders during the 1930s-40s, but ones grading F through AU survived only by chance and are thus much more difficult to find. Mint State pieces are moderately scarce in all grades, and gems are very elusive.

The date logo punches for the silver coins of this date are all quite different in both style and size from those used in previous years, and the reason for this is unknown. It does, however, give 1915-dated halves a very distinctive look.
