Description & Analysis

The newly-built Denver Mint was ready for operation very early in 1906, and the first striking of dimes occurred on February 27. More than four million would be produced by year's end, nearly all of them being sharp and lustrous.

Examples are easily found in circulated grades, and Mint State pieces are only slightly scarce. A fair number were saved as the first of their kind from this mint. Gems, while not common, are available to the advanced collector.

There are several each of misplaced and repunched date varieties, most of them quite minor. Some of these are found in combination. Also known are a couple of repunched mintmark varieties. Since all dies were prepared at the Philadelphia Mint, it was a matter of coincidence where the obverse dies were ultimately used.
