Description & Analysis

With the nation's economy at a near standstill in 1895, the need for additional coins was very limited. The Philadelphia Mint recorded its smallest production of dimes since 1881, and this record stands to the present day.

Scarce in any grade, Mint State coins are nevertheless available to the advanced collector. Only at the gem (MS 65) level does this date become truly rare.

1895(P) dimes typically are well struck from fairly sharp dies. The example illustrated displays deep die-clash impressions on both sides.
