How many different sizes of S mintmarks were used to coin 1875-S half dollars?

First post that correctly answers wins "The Complete Guide to Buffalo Nickels, Second Edition" written by David W. Lange.

Don't forget, we also draw for a runner-up prize from all remaining posts with a correct answer.

Good Luck!

REMINDER: The Numisma-Quest ends/ended on Saturday at midnight EST. Entries after that time will not be valid. See the Trivia Info post for more details.

When you post your answer, only the administrators can see it. Stop back each Monday. We will make all the posts visible and announce the winners.

According to Wiley-Bugert, there are 5 different varieties based on mintmark sizes.

WB-101 and WB-102 are both considered ``very small,'' but WB-102 is recut.

So, the answer is either 4 or 5, depending on how you meant the question...

My first response is "Who cares?" My second response is that according to Breen, 3 sizes--small, broad S, tall narrow S, and very small S. Breen also talks about a minute S, but does not verify that he, personally, saw one.
