If you're going to start collecting Seated Dollars, then I highly recommend that you join the Liberty Seated Collectors Club. You can find information about it at.... LSCC Home Page .

You'll see a link on there for the LSCC Message Board. This is the forum where all the Seated experts are.

Good luck.

Thanks to BKW for pointing this medal out to me on a dealer's website. A lovely example of an "occasional" piece issued as part of the Heraldic Art Medals. In addition to the 60 main medals issued over the 20 years from 1959 through 1978, 7 special occasion pieces were also issued. The occasional pieces were issued in smaller mintages (max 5,300 medals) than the main 60 medals (mintages usually around 6,000 medals). This is the 3rd of the 7 special issues, designed and struck very shortly following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in November 1963.

This medal has wonderful surfaces, with light champagne toning in the centers, and the lightest violet toning at the periphery of both the obverse and reverse. I also find the design quite beautiful in general, with semi-high relief that was common on many of the Heraldic Art Medal pieces.

I'm also posting a close-up of some of the lovely detail below.

Bought a small box of coins from a buddy who had inherited them and needed quick cash. Got these two beauties, not sure if I should send in for grading or not. Just learning to photo coins, so be nice

Neither are worth grading, they are both common dates, in common condition, with dark mottled toning.

I'd keep them raw and enjoy them that way.

Thanks. I was leaning that way. Was impressed they had as little wear and tear as they did, considering the storage method

Really enjoyed seeing the Kennedy medal.

Now that the Kennedy Half is in it's 50th year,

I wonder if they'll modify it. As the state and ATB

Quarters have done for the hobby, it might be a

good idea that this non circulating coin be used to

commemorate other events... Could be a new

resurgence in Half Dollar Commems.

Please, though, mint them only in Cu/Ni to

try and keep, the costs down, let's try and get

more YN's to join the hobby. If the Mint would

only charge a tiny amount over face value, I

think the kids would enjoy the series... And maybe,

Go back further and collect older series !
