The 1824 half is rather nice too. The toning is light but it has never been cleaned. The stike is bold with good definition in the stars on the obverse.

This is my kind of thread! wink.gif Your 1795 has a tremendous amount of obverse detail when compared to the reverse, what are you giving the overall grade? As for the divot in front of Ms Liberty, it really isn't that bad, but is that lightly smoothed over graffiti in the right obverse field? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Here's a 1794 that goes nicely with your 1795-

((( Your 1795 has a tremendous amount of obverse detail when compared to the reverse, what are you giving the overall grade?)))

It is a coin that warrants a split grade. I call it VF-25/VG-10, with an overall net-grade of F-15+. Really, the obverse grades VF-30, but some would consider the flaw - which is TINY in-hand - a minor distraction, so I took 5 points off the technical grade. It cost me solid VF-20 money over a year ago. But for a type coin, you couldn't ask for better, considering the obverse is so nice, and is what most people would concentrate on.

Strangely, I've never bothered to attribute the coin....

No smoothing whatsoever. It is an astoundingly original coin that has not been molested in any way! That is why I love it so much, planchet flaw and all. There are extremely minor circulation scratches, but in-hand, they are just not visible. Bear in mind that the image is like looking at the coin under 25X magnification!

I'll take it!!!!!!

Here's some more total originality - ex ANACS VF-30:

1836 lettered edge counts! In fact, any half 1839 and before counts. For that matter, I wouldn't mind seeing some pre Civil-War Seateds!!

C'MON GUYS, MORE COINS!!!!!!

I can't post pictures in the reply since my images are from the registry and it won't let me post them as images. So here are some links to the pics and is someone can post them in the thread, you have my permission to do it! These are two of my personal favorites, both purchased raw.

Dipped long ago, this piece still has some great Mint luster and a nicely developed secondary toning. Surfaces are mosty gray with the obvious rim toning from an album... I like it, anyway, and I just placed it in my Signature set.

Since I posted my 1801, I may as well post my 1802. Of course it looks much better in person. Now TomB has an 02 that will knock mine in the dirt.

Gaw- head Tom... Post that baby! cool.gif

Hello Guys and Gals-----My dear wife, Barb, is getting better putting pictures on----so I will try and see if this 1821 comes up correctly. At any rate, I bought it 'raw' off of Ebay---thought it was an unc. NGC said AU58. But it looks 'original skinned' to me and that is what counts. Great halves posted here in this thread. I congratulate all of you for saving your share of Numismatic history. Bob [supertooth]

Here is a link to my early half registry gallery with picture and descriptions, some interesting die breaks and a few condition census (for the variety) draped bust coins Seattle Collection Early Halves

Early halves are a fascinating series to collect, most varieties have interesting die states. Even with recent price increases, draped bust halves are still the lowest price silver draped bust coins. They can be found well struck, with patience, but varieties that have lousy strikes from dies used beyond their useful life are more intriguing to me. As dates, the 1803's and 1805's are sleepers, as prices are not much more than 1806's and 1807's, if you can find them.
