**New** - Signature Sets in the NGC Registry

49 posts in this topic

The introduction of Signature Sets allows users to make up their own set definitions and enter any NGC or PCGS coins they like.

In traditional competitive registry sets NGC defines what is eligible for a set. While we have many predefined set structures, there are still some collectors who can’t post their sets because we haven’t yet added a set that reflects the way they collect. Signature Sets will allow collectors to post sets of any type.

Unlike our traditional competitive registry categories, Signature Sets will not be competitive and will not be ranked.

Any Collectors Society member, free or paid, can enter a Signature Set by choosing ‘Add/Manage Signature Sets’ from the ‘Coins’ menu after login.

We hope you enjoy this new functionality!

Are there any plans to add any other grading services to the signature sets? If ANACS and ICG were also allowed it would be perfect cool.gif

This was a great idea Dena--I love griping about grading standards, dumb point scores for semi-key dates on Registry (like 3 for a $1500 coin vs 700 for a $500 MS coin)-- all the usual. BUT-- I just listed some of my NGC Elaisberg gold at Signature and all of NGC's transgressions are forgiven!!!. I also picked up 4 more examples to add to the Signature set for NGC to grade at this weekends Baltimore show after dropping off 9 at the NGC booth there!! I haven't added that many coins in a year to my regular Registry Sets !! cool.gif

An interesting concept that allows some personal expression and definition of sets (i.e. the 8 varieties of SL Dimes) that are not in the usual format of Registry Sets. Points are not the key criteria, creativity in set definition is.

I just tried to set up a set, and it was having trouble saving, then it somehow tripled about half of the slots I created, and then it just stopped working altogether. I give up, this is too much hassle.

We actually just had to restart a component of the web server. I think you got caught in the restart.

Seems like it's having a problem again...I accidentally deleted 4 coins from my signature set while cleaning up other registry sets I own. I just went back in and tried to add them for about an hour and each time I saved they never showed up???

We have a new version rolling out with a few fixes in it shortly. It seems there's an issue with sets that manage to go over 100 coins.

Seems to be running much smoother now. The only bug I encountered was after making changes through the EDIT tab. I added two new slots and picked "United States" as the country. After a successful save, I viewed the set and to my dismay, both coins showed up as Afghanistan, not USA. I was able to fix them through the individual slot "edit" links.

I had the same issue when I added 10 coins...half came up as Afghanistan even though they were clearly marked USA when I hit the save button. I also had issue with coins doubling and trippling when I would hit save....and then as I would delete the duplicates even more would show up..........very frustrating as I am tring to create a dupplicate set so that I can get the gallery images in the order my set is listed in.............I have mine arranged by denomination but the gallery shows them in random order which takes away from the look of my set.

It has now been a full week since my last post and alas I have given up any hope of being able to make my Registry set more structured. Since the Gallery images are not in the order that my set listings are.....aka the gallery images are completely jumbled between the different denominations..........

I thought I would just make a copy of my set and then put the coins in by denomination so that the Morgans are together and the Halves are together etc....

This has lead to complete frustration since 1 coin comes up that I do not own it....even though it's in my current Registry set. When I try to delete it and just continue with the rest of the coins.....it doubles all of my coin entries so that I have two of every coin....and of course now half of them are from Afghanistan..

What the heck gives??? I am not computer illiterate it just seems like there's quite a few bugs that keep popping up so maybe I am just not being patient enough...

The bottom line is that I want my set to be asthetically please when the gallery features is selected and frankly it looks like do do if you get my jist! What are my options here???

Please accept my apologies in advance if I sound like a raving lunatic.....I just want to actually use my holiday free time to get something accomplished and now I will have to resort to wall painting or Laundry foreheadslap.gif

There is an issue with the Signature Sets that has reared its ugly head again. Changes to slots are not saving from the Edit tab. You get the "Saved Successfully" message but none of the changes are retained. I remember this happened once before in the past.

The result is that I was able to create a new set but unable to add any coins to it.

I just entered a Topical Signature Set, named "Coins of the American Civil War". However, your software decided (on it's own) that these were coins of the "Afganistan Civil War". Despite re-entering the country properly by building the set twice in frustration and trying five times to edit the set, your software still believes that my set is an Afganistan Set. It will not allow me to change the country to the United States. Can this be fixed on your end. Thanks,

OT3

Once a coin's image is in a Registry or Signature set, can it be shown in the body of a post by refererence? (I've tried using the URL a couple of times in "test"mode and was unsuccessful.)

Thanks,

yarm

Sure.

But the regular image tags used as UBB code don't work, because the pics aren't strictly labeled as an image type. So you have to use HTML

Coinimage.asp?CertNum=195178-001&Face=o&CacheBuster=0.7055475

Coinimage.asp?CertNum=195178-001&Face=o&CacheBuster=0.7055475

Code for that looks like this:

I'm getting closer to posting pictures! Arch, I can now include the obverse of that 1946 dime in all my posts using HTML! However, when I substitute the cert numb 156791-006 representing a coin in my signature set, the preview shows "image not available." (test yarm May 26, 2006 with reply) How far astray am I? Thanks!

yarm

PS What is the line of code for a coin's reverse?
