1946 D penny looks like steel

Just a coin that has had a rough life, varying levels of silver toning is not uncommon for Lincoln cents depending on the environmental and human factors it as been exposed to.   They are also often nickel and silver plated for novelty items and just because people get bored.

I found  one yesterday that someone has plated. Also found one someone counterstamped with a free mason stamp.

The others have this one just right....it's environmental damage, a plating job and quite possibly both.  Cents are subjected to all kinds of things as they go through the channels of circulation.
