What happened to this 1945D Walking Liberty Half Dollar? 0

I was wondering if anyone has an idea of what could have happened to this Walking Liberty? It supposedly came from a "new" roll with a bunch of other 1941-1945 Walking Liberty coins. I'm assuming that this was one of the coins that was at the end of the roll.

I would say you are correct. Nevertheless it is a beautiful coin details are exceptional.

It may have been an EOR (end of roll) coin, however most of the time the coins that I have seen come from a crimped roll the colors would be reversed with the most color in the center of the coin that was exposed and the edge less or not effected at all as the paper of the roll protected it.   And while there are some who will like the color that dark terminal toning very well may have begun to etch the surface of the coin.  My suspicion is that there was another smaller coin on top of this coin which protected the center from whatever has caused the environmental damage to the edge.

Also agreed with coinbuf except do not believe the edge suffers from environmental damage yet. Just a tad dark which can hide possible  but not likely issues. 

This coin looks to be a lower grade Unc or high end AU as it appears to have some rub on the high points or is weakly struck. The reverse looks nicer.
