That looks more like some sort of medallion than a coin that has been made for a piece of jewellery.

I agree. That is not a coin. It is a piece of jewelry. It appears to have been gold plated and the plating has worn off in spots.

Seeing it is not a coin and not gold, there would be no numismatic value to it.

It looks to be a type of jeweler's metal which is a nickel alloy and  has no intrinsic value. In my opinion this should be kept in the family. Any item that has been in the family for generations deserves a little space in the next generation's world.
