RWB Posted August 22, 2020 Author Share Posted August 22, 2020 (edited) Insider - I looked into the 7/8 TF dies because it was critical in understanding how the earlier coins of 1878, and the later design changes were produced and how they fell into sequence. In essence 7/8 TF are just incomplete grinding and rehubbing of 8 TF dies so that new 7 TF dies could be produced sooner than normal. Existing 8TF dies were partially effaced than impressed with the new 7 TF hub. This eliminated most of the blows needed to make a working die.
