What planchet was this struck on or is something else going on?

It looks like a normal circulated Jefferson, and it is only 32/100ths of  gram below tolerance, so it could be just the wear that is responsible for it being slightly under weight.

I see only a normal nickel that has suffered minor loss of mass due to circulation.

I'm not up on my Henning counterfeit nickel dates. Is 1948 one?

Not to the best of my knowledge (unless it is the unknown date)  But this doesn't have the look of a Henning, the lettering is too sharp, and the Hennings are typically overweight, about 5.4 grams.
