Counterfeit El Cazador?

3 posts in this topic

I purchased two El Cazador coins in NGC certified slabs to set for pendants. While setting the 2 real I noticed that the silver on the rim of the coin had chipped off exposing full metal underneath. Is this a common occurence or Is this a plated counterfeit?20200308_002726.thumb.jpg.7d453e8af446eb2d40249f076ff6a798.jpg

Some delamination in a shipwreck coin would not seem out of place. From a numismatic standpoint as I'm sure you have guessed, the coin for its own sake is a bowser. It's the shipwreck part that gives it interest and probably a value premium.
