Hello I'm new here, can anyone tell me why, my 1921 PEACE DOLLAR is toned brown? None of the rest are this color, I even have a 1928 that is darkly toned but it's not this color/brown!15730302285613298648131756494757.thumb.jpg.d6d0283b7b260ac659d02fa3d561561e.jpg

Welcome to the Forum Will

That is just toning that has changed to a darker colour. The next stage is that it will turn to black.

I have a couple of silver coins that have changed completely black.

They probably were once "dipped" to brighten them and the dip was not properly neutralized (baking soda bath, then distilled water, then acetone) before storing them. I'm a photo geek and Agfa once made a "silver stabilizer" chemical called Sistan, which I used on my classic black and white prints and negatives, and those treated with it are really still high quality. I've bathed some silver coins in it, on the theory it will stabilize them against "turning".
