I stopped in my local county seat today to purchase a personal property (vehicle) county sticker. They told me how much it cost and then said" will that be check or cash". I was a bit dumbfounded as I put away my credit card. With everything going digital these days - it's nice to conduct business in cash.

A nice change, but, sadly, could be very inconvenient.

I rarely carry cash, and checks are essentially archaic for trivial amounts. I have had the same checkbook for three years now, and I have only used two checks. One of which was used to pay for a purchase at a UK auction house that only accepted checks and bank wires. Although I only used cash when I was in Europe this summer and it made me realize how much I miss receiving coins in change.

When we numismatists go into the cashless and digital future without complaint or active pushback, we wantonly participate in the destruction of our hobby. I use cash whenever practical. And oh yeah, "Big Brother" doesn't know what I purchase every day either.

I use cash for small purchases, up to say $50, and checks for larger ones.  About the only time I will use a credit card is for an online purchase, and then only if they don't accept paypal.
