I have a 1955D Lincoln penny that I believe is brass, how can I determine if it is or not?

They're all copper alloy before 1982 (1943 zinc coated steel is the exception).   1982 was a transition year so they could be copper or copper plated zinc.  1983 and later, they're all copper plated zinc.
