Should I select varieties?

I have a 1878S Morgan Dollar with 7 tail feathers but that’s as accurate as I can get. Does the grading process include a more detailed ID or just assign a number? Should I check the varieties box for that info?

All 1878-S Morgan Dollars have the 7-feathers reverse of 1878, so there are no major varieties for the date/mint. There are some specialized varieties which are attributed by NGC under its VarietyPlus Service. If you believe you may have one of these then it makes sense to check the VarietyPlus box and pay the $15 attribution fee. Otherwise, you don't need to request a variety:
