Morgan dollar 1897 cc

Hello, I recieved a silver Morgan dollar from 1897. It has a cc (Carson city) mintmark, but I found out, that cc bank didn't produce silver coins after year 1993. Is it a fake one then? Or does it have any value? I am curious why would anyone forge coin with wrong data...

I am not a collector and don't know anything about it. Thanks for any answers

Hi JanaK,

You're correct, the Carson City Mint did not produce silver dollars in 1897. Someone may have added/altered the mintmark to create something that had the appearance of a rarity (probably with the goal to make a quick profit). That's a pretty good "fake". Are you sure you have the date correct?

The coin has been posted across multiple forums.  It is definitely a fake.
