What a great collecting theme. I wasn't aware that there were so many medals issued representing the same commemoration. I do know that expos or similar events seem to have an unlimited amount of related materials, including medals. A lifetime of collecting enjoyment indeed.

William Wyon engraved this 1844 medal for the Reopening of the Royal Exchange. The detail work is exceptional.1540434262_BHM2185000253whited-horz.thumb.jpg.163b7d8dcfbdcd7c042320ec805f089b.jpg

The Wyon family did very nice work - William especially. Are you a collector of Wyon’s work?

I'm a collector of British historical medals generally so the Wyon family is well represented throughout the 19th century.

Hmm. Unusual, huh? Well, it sure is an unusual shape. Its metal composition is nothing special, bronze. Big honkin’ sucker. But the thing that makes it weird is that it is mine. Roger also has one.

I saw this one on auction recently and thought about bidding - very nice.

Statue of King George Ill in the council chamber of the Guildhall in the City of London. The statue is by Francis Leggatt Chantry.
