Something was done to this coin which reduced the diameter. In addition, most of the lettering is worn away from the reverse, while much of the obverse lettering remains Finally, the obverse wear looks more like it was ground off or sanded than conventional wear.

So, here is my theory:

I think it  was caught in between the inner and outer drums of a commercial dryer, which reduced the diameter, and wore off the reverse lettering.

Then, it either slipped to another part of the machine which ground off the raised rim and the design, or it was retrieved by someone who then sanded the coin down.

Or, it could be just a worn out dime.
