I would think that if it would have been double struck, everything else would be also. Not sure what caused it but it looks pretty cool.

Interesting.  It MIGHT be a doubled die, but with todays single squeeze hubbing it would not be pivoted hub doubling.

i know i was definitely shocked when i noticed this on a 2000 minted denver penny with no such variety anywhere in any literature that i can find but im definitely gonna hang onto it or maybe send it to the doubled die guy, im sorry i forget his name, and see what he has to say on the issue.
