Can you tell what date this is?

So my wife found this V Nickel in her cash register at work. I'm trying to figure out what date it is. I know the first 3 are 188. I'm thinking the last one is a 9 because it looks a little different than the other tops of the 8's. What do you think?

Can't think it would be anything but 1899 from pics.

When I am able to get the light just right, it is definitely a 188. I have an 1888 and the more I looked at it, the more I believe it to be an 1889. The top of the last number is just a little too rounded compared to the top of the 8.

I'm going to say 1889 on it.  The top of that last numeral is definitely different than the two 8's.
