Ebay mygrandfatherstreasurestash: this will you off

6 posts in this topic

I bought a bunch of wheat cent rolls from eBay seller http://www.ebay.com/usr/mygrandfatherstreasurestash and when I go to open it they were all filled with late wheat cents from the 1940s and 1950s. They were hand filled made to look like it's professionally rolled. I wasted a lot of money, very disappointed in http://www.ebay.com/usr/mygrandfatherstreasurestash

In my opinion if you are pissed of send him message.

Welcome!

Sorry to hear of your misfortune; but the best place to purchase unsearched rolls would be at your local bank.  These to good to be true adventures on ebay always end the same way.  Don't let this dissuade you in your collecting pursuits.  Maybe check what you have for varieties-  make a little bit of lemonade from that lemon.

Here are links you can research to check for varieties- good luck!  If you find something cool let us know.

Wheat pennies are fun to collect. You won't dig a hole in your back yard and find gold so don't expect to find a treasure in a roll off e-bay. :)  There are some great copper collectors here in the club that will help you do better than a blow out on e-bay:wink:

It's like they say ----- You get what you pay for ???

It is probably true that there are no unsearched rolls. I did buy a bag of 5000 wheats about a year ago and it contained a huge amount of early ones. I got at least 4 rolls of coins in about vg condition that are in the 4-25 dollar range and lot of early S mints etc... The story I was told, was that a bank sold off a pile of these bags. I paid $250. I was pretty pleased with the contents. That is not to say that someone many years ago did not go thru looking for the real valuable ones.
