Raw 1936 Buffalo Arrived Today

5 posts in this topic

I bought this raw on ebay; was looking for a nice upgrade for my book.  Although not that terribly hard to find in uncirculated condition- this coin has exceptional detail, and is in nice condition.  I was quite pleased.  I took photo's outside to capture the satiny luster.  Any more detail and I'd think struck on a medal press!    If only....

The fields are nice.  Couple spots on reverse.  Hit above Iron Tail's eye and on cheek.  Exceptional strike, but nicely struck coins are known for this date and mint.

You'll probably get no less than a 66 if you slab it.  Maybe even a 67.

Thanks for comments.   I spent a good hour convincing myself that this was just a business strike when it arrived; although I wanted to believe more because of the nice detailed devices.  After referencing Roger's book; United States Proof Coins 1936-1942, and looking at several examples through past auctions there wasn't any doubt it was just a business strike.  That's part of the fun in this hobby for me I suppose:  a lot of thrill, and learning while on the chase.
