Novice coin collectors tools of the trade

Can you give me some advice as to what kind of equipment I can purchase to enhance my coin collecting/submitting hobby?

I am a novice collector and would like to better evaluate my coins prior to submission

thank you

Thank you for your question. For research materials I would highly suggest purchasing a copy of the "Official Red book," which is a spiral bound book containing information on U.S. coins. I would also read and interact on our online forums below as well as frequenting coin shows and coin shops for in hand examples.

For grading, I would suggest using a 5x loupe in a dark room with one overhead light source. Most of our graders prefer to use 100 watt incandescent bulbs.
