Great Britain Coin Purchases

6 posts in this topic

I normally don't go out of my way to purchase world coins; however, I could not pass these coins up. The Estate sale was of the late Leonard L. Ewers, and he collected both U.S. coins, and World coins- mostly British. I went to the preview of the sale the day before to see what would be worth pursuing, and surprisingly, I didn't really see any U.S. coins that I couldn't live without. Well, I reached over to a few Whitman books that were labeled "Great Britain Silver Type Set," and about fell over! Beautiful, beautiful coins...well, to make a long story short, a few of us went home happy yesterday! ;)

I purchased a Great Britain Silver type set book that has the 1902 Crown, along with 1927 Proof, 1935 Silver Jubilee, 1937 Coronation, 1951 Festival of Britain, 1953 Coronation, and 1960 Proof.  The book itself is partial but some nice early shillings, half crown, and most all copper nickel alloy coins.  Could anyone please tell me what the error edge is on the 1902 Crown?

Thanks,

Rich

Nice coins. Makes me realize I really need to start going to more local auctions.

Yes sir;  there is much out in your own back yard!  Lot 208 set me back $52.50.  The half penny cost me $40, and the proof 6 pence set me back $27.50.  Maundy money for 1877 was $42.50...the set that I paid $275 for with the 1902 Crown included,  the 1927 Proof, 1935 Silver Jubilee, 1937 Coronation, 1951 Festival of Britain, 1953 Coronation, and the 1960 Proof which were in Silver Type Book; all BU.  I also picked up 1909 and 1931 Shillings along with 1916 half crown....a few more silver, and many copper nickel BU's in the book.

I don't mean to be too braggadocios; but yet, you are right in your intuitions.  Hit your local auction!
