Is this a real 1776 continental coin?

The coin is a copy and has no numismatic value. There are probably (literally) thousands of copies for every genuine one.

There are sloppy copies, mediocre copies and of course well made copies. Yours is a mediocre variety, a nice keepsake of an era gone by.

It is amazing how many fake ones there are out there. My wifes grandpa has had one since 1964. I posted it here a couple years back and found out it was a fake also.

Those are the names of the colonies in the chain links. Your coin is a mushy cast copy so those names can't be read. As an example.....
