1899 Liberty Quarter Eagle $2.50

2 posts in this topic

Saw this little sparkler the other day. Had to have it. Now its mine.

This coin is in a PCGS holder, but there is absolutely no doubt that this coin is fully PL. The reverse is absolutely cameo DPL. It is spectacular! Interestingly, when I was doing my research before buying this coin, I noticed that it had sold previously wearing NGC clothes. Any guesses what NGC called it the last time they saw it?

The Liberty Quarter eagle, like all Liberty coinage, is available in Prooflike condition. Looking at the NGC census, there are around 260 PL coins designated for the series. Unfortunately, like most PL gold, most of these are in the 58-62 range. Unlike the half eagle I posted a couple of months ago, however, the $2.50 is more widely available in very high grade PL.

So, here's my newest Newp. Guess the grade!

Too bad it can't go into my Registry set....
