'J' and 'W' and 'R'' designations?

Regarding a J (which is not included in the link above), I know we have used J to indicate Judd Numbers on Pattern coins. Is that the context in which you've seen the J?

 

The W designation was discontinued in 2002. It was used to indicate that a silver or nickel coin was entirely untoned, and its application was limited to certain modern series.
