I've been watching that coin on eBay. Looks beautiful and the price isn't too out of line with auction results of similar quality. Most coins on eBay that look like that are asking 3K.

Would agree pictures look tweaked.

If someone paid a premium for the look, they may have been disappointed (may still look good, but not what was expected.....my guess)

On eBay, for this coin, there are 43 comments. Search out the "low number of stars" comments and you'll cut through much of the BS, and have your answer.

Pretty coin, nice old holder...but $1799.

Those comments are not for this coin. Ebay comments don't translate well to collectibles. Those are reviews like amazon. They are a group of reviews for 1885 O morgan dollars in general. Completely useless. If you think about it, how could 43 people have a review about this 1 exact coin?

I guess you're right, but some of them do seem to be referring to this exact coin.

Probably never held it in hand, don't know.

I suspect buyer's remorse not a mismatch of color. It looks like it pops in hand even with the juice adjustment. I am curious because I have almost bought from this seller before, and I almost pulled on this coin. Wondering if pics are way off.

I'm beginning to think when dealer's describe coins as "monster" we should interpret it as "scary, run away fast"...

:insane:

It is still up for sale and probably will remain that way till ended appears in a toned gray and white stripe across the holder imo.

A OBO option could change that.

The photo's are probably "Juiced" though the coin would still look vibrant in hand.

All said, a very interesting coin with a high price tag!

Here is a less extreme example of a photo that's been "Enhanced". I know.....

because I bought it! In hand, It's actually more lustrous with a beautiful patina

that's uncommon. The rainbow is genuine. I'm trying to figure out what the heck

happened to the NGC label on the reverse...attacked by the Eagle? lol

It recently sold, was returned or maybe never paid for, and now relisted.

Here's a great example of a rainbow Morgan up for bids. Seems to me the strike

is a solid MS63+, must be the surface chatter keeping the grade so low.

The sky may be the limit on this gem!

That coin wont top 200 and the strike doesn't affect grade at all here. Grade is based on damage and wear.

I also suspect buyer's remorse or inability to pay.

I think that the images are probably close to how it looks in hand given the star by NGC.

Yeah I don't get that feel these pics are juiced. And I've chatted with the seller seems honest but ive never seen anyne post any of his coins on forums nor does he seem to be a forumite anywhere.

He had a Peace dollar I wish I had bought with some unique toning.

I adjusted the image to restore its white balance:

With coinman1794's white balance restoration, the coin's appearance is even more beautiful.

A breathtaking coin, no doubt. The sort of coin where long after the price is forgotten, the quality is remembered.

Some could say you'd never get your money back out of it. But the coin is a show stealer. It just is.

I've never understood the 'comment' thing on ebay. It's of no use whatsoever. I started looking at comments posted for some of my items. Not only were the posters not customers, the comments often had nothing to do with the item. Just an ebay programmer trying to keep their job. We've seen alot of that before.

Hype hurts as often as it helps selling numismatics.

I recently sold a couple nice classic 1800s type toned coins, if they have CAC stickers that would be an added assurance that the toning is original:

http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/6hMAAOSw3mpXIouz/s-l1600.jpg http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/WfoAAOSwlHRXIova/s-l1600.jpg

For every "rare" toned coin there are thousands more especially the Morgans.
