General Bradley severely restricted the number of items issued to soldiers,

•Order of the Day

.

•Replica 200 francs of invasion currency

•These notes were legal tender in occupied France, even though most were printed in the United States.

My guess is that France objected to the invasion currency.

The allied soldiers that invaded Normandy on D-Day carried with them Allied military currency franc issue, called "supplemental French franc currency". Supplemental French franc currency was issued in 2 franc, 5 franc, 10 franc, 50 franc, 100 franc and 500 franc denominations. Supplemental French franc currency is sometimes referred to as "Flag backs" since each denomination has the French Flag on the back.

The order to issue "supplemental French franc currency" to all allied military personal participating in the invasion of France was issued by the Supreme Allied Commander, General of the Army Dwight David Eisenhower. General Charles de Gaulle the leader of the Free French and head of the "French Committee of National Liberation" protested its use and called the issue counterfeit money.

DeGaulle protested and called the notes counterfeit.

General Bradley had the final order in what the troops carried, including the 200 Francs of INVASION CURRENCY.

It was called "invasion currency" and while authorized by the Allies (because they did not have enough existing French money) the French government claimed it was counterfeit.

I believe it was called invasion currency, not sure who issued the order to carry them, but do recall that DeGaulle was not happy with it.
